A Dog’s Purpose

Finally got around to seeing this movie. I honestly didn’t know what to expect, as I hadn’t even seen any promotion material for it. Perhaps I should of looked first and understood that perhaps this might cause some emotions.

Despite the feelings it produced, I really did enjoy this movie. The story was a wonderful one and it makes you wonder that perhaps this could be true. Perhaps be prepared with some tissues, as it’s likely to pull some strings for the older audience members who have had a dog before and had to say goodbye.

You can read more about it on IMDB.

Boat Purchased

My wife and I had been discussing for a while regarding a watercraft. We did think about getting a Seadoo Spark. However PWC (Private Water Craft) licence is expensive per year and required on top of a Boat Licence. In addition to this the areas where it can be used heavily restricted.

In the end we decided perhaps a boat would be better. This way we can use it as a family.

In the end the boat idea won out. We ended up obtaining an approx. 3 year old Polycraft 4.1 Challenger Open Deck with Suzuki 30HP 2stroke Outboard with electric start.

We will be sure to use it soon as we get a chance and finish off getting my Boat Licence.

New monitor – Asus VP228H

I’ve been thinking of purchasing another monitor for probably several months now. I already have dual screens that I use with my Intel NUC 5th Gen i3. But I have got sick of switching inputs to use one of them with another computer. So thought why not, just buy another monitor after all.

I wasn’t after anything flash, just needed something that did 1920 x 1080 resolution and had D-Sub, DVI and HDMI ports. In the end I decided to purchase the Asus VP228H 21.5″ LED 1ms Full HD HDMI Gaming Monitor with Speaker.

Hopefully this will be an alright monitor, as I must admit I purchased my Dual LG 24″ displays and haven’t really been very impressed with them.

New Computer Build Update2

Today I completed some installation tasks on the machine and added an TP-Link Wireless card (Model: TL-WN881ND) which I’ve had for a while and is a spare unit.

I really like this card as it works on Windows 8 upwards, and you don’t have to install any drivers or software. It works out of the box with Windows.

Here is a picture of the finished computer.

New Computer Build Update1

System was built tonight. I added to the machine a spare Sandisk 120G SSD drive I had, and also a SATA DVD Burner Optical Drive.

I had a few problems installing the CPU cooler, but after some initial tweaking got things completed.

Very impressed with the performance from the little Celeron processor. Certainly makes a nice workstation for general word processing, internet and email usage.

New Computer Build

Ordered a few computer parts to build a modest system up for my mum. Below is a list of the items I purchased.

I already have a DVD burner, SSD drive and PCI-e wireless card which I will install in the computer. Should make a very capable machine, and upgrade.

New Puppy

We had been planning on getting another dog, however had been waiting for the right time.

This is Coco who is our new puppy and new addition to the family.

I am sure Buddy and Bindi will be looking down happy that we got another dog, however we did wait some time before doing so as we wanted to grieve for them.

Still miss them both. Long RIP Buddy and Bindi.

YAMS – Yet another Minecraft Server

Several months ago I had been running a Minecraft server for my son and I to play on. He thought it was wonderful. However, the machine got rebuilt and the server was unavailable for a while. That was until last night.

Couple weeks back I found a program called YAMS, which per the subject of this post means Yet another Minecraft Server. I liked how you could run multiple servers, and some other key features. So I decided to install it, since I could run it on a Windows computer, rather than use Linux like I had been previously. I love Linux, and it runs fine, but I just wanted to use Windows so I could take advantage of the hardware to perform other things.

I finally got it installed and configured last night. Now all we need to do is to test it. I also download Bukkit and setup a server using it. So we can now run a couple of servers and just use a web based GUI to configure it. Now the what plugins to download and install. Guess we have some playing to do.

If you need to download the Bukkit library, it was taken down due to legal issues. But a mirror exists and I found the following mirror here (Yive’s Mirror).

Below is a picture of the YAMS Control dialog;

Minecraft – New fan

My kids are both very interested in Minecraft and basically would love watching it played by others.

Recently purchased it for my oldest child, and while he hasn’t played much yet, I have played it a little and surprised I actual like it.

I think you could say I am a new fan to Minecraft, and will probably play a little myself. I like the challenge in survival mode. It’s pretty difficult at times when you have no real resources.

A friend has recommended I setup a server and that way my son and I can both play on that server and be on the same map etc. Will certainly give this a go in coming weeks.

New antenna installed at Caravan

The in laws bought a caravan some months ago that is permanently on site. However the antenna was completely broken. Basically no TV reception at all. Not surprised as the antenna was missing items that are important to how it works.

Arranged to purchase a replacement from Jaycar and when I went down to visit we installed the new antenna. It was easy enough to install and after it was done, we can now tune in the TV channels with no problem. However, we installed it on the last day of the visit. So they won’t get to use it until next break at the Caravan.

Oh well now you can watch the news and/or other items as needed while at the Caravan, vs previously being unable to get any TV at all.
