A washed car always leads to rain

Spent a good amount time lastnight washing the cars, and this usually results in the use of the car next day involving lots of rain. Sure enough my trip to Wyong today involved driving in lots of rain on the way up and back.

Car is now dirty, guess I will be cleaning it again probably tomorrow, as it certainly needs it again now.

The rain we drove through was very heavy and the visibility was reduced greatly during the trip.

Broke my corded Jigsaw

The other day I was using my corded Jigsaw which I got free from neighbour a while ago. Unfortunately it broke, so it looks like I need to buy another.

Not the best timing, but I was going to eventually replace it with a Makita cordless one anyways, guess I will have to buy one sooner now, since I don’t have a working one now and still have some jobs I am completing with it.

Going to buy this one here. (Model: BJV180Z)

Makita 18v LXT Li-Ion Cordless Hammer Drill Driver BHP458

The new Makita 18v LXT Li-Ion Cordless Hammer Drill Driver (BHP458) I ordered yesterday arrived. I ordered it as a kit from Sydney Tools, as I needed a charger and batteries for some other skins I purchased on the weekend, so this made a good deal to get those items.

My kit I ordered is here.

I charged up both batteries, and used the drill just briefly and was complete impressed by the torque that it produces when used in driver mode. Very impressive. The dual LED lights are nice and bright too, think this will be one of my new favorite tools for a while.

Will be sure to post more feedback after I use it a bit more.

New Makita tool purchases

I’ve had a driver and impact drill set from Makita for a year now. It was an 18v combo kit that my wife got me as a Christmas gift. It’s been a very good set, however it is the generation prior to the LXT models available now.

I would typically buy PC bits with any extra money I get from time to time for working various extra work outside the normal year. While I still have been considering the purchase of PC hardware, I thought it might be a good idea to buy some new Makita 18v gear. It just so happens I noticed some price drops, so I thought why not.

Picked up the following items today, and plan on buying an additional item this week, as I need some 18v LXT 3.0Ah batteries and charger to suit.

Makita 18v LXT Li-Ion Cordless Blower Skin Only

Makita 18v LXT Li-Ion Cordless Angle Grinder Skin Only

As I mentioned above, was going to buy a rapid charger and 2 batteries, however decided to buy the kit below which includes the batteries I need and the rapid charger, but also gives me a hammer drill in the LXT range, which I somewhat need, as I don’t have one already from my existing kit I own.

Makita 18v LXT Li-Ion Cordless Hammer Drill Driver Combo Kit

At which point I will be buying probably another individual battery to give me 3 total and some additional 18v LXT Li-Ion tools. As I really want to get a jigsaw, circular saw, multitool.

Wet n Wild – Sydney

My wife and I decided to take our oldest son to Wet n Wild – Sydney as a treat. Considering this week was his first day at prep school.

He was very excited, and when we arrived yesterday afternoon his excitement at the time was evident once he saw the place. We had a good time and managed to make the most of the special price for twilight after 3pm. Mind you it got pretty cool once that sun went down about 8pm. All in all it wasn’t bad.

The queues were of course fairly long for the attractions and the food/drink prices are a bit of a joke.

SolarTint window tint installed on car

The day finally rolled around for the install of our window tint on the new car. We went with SolarTint as I have used them in the past and been very happy with them. They had a special going for $345. The car has a good quality film with the maximum legal tint of 35%.

Backyard Garden Work – Progress pictures

Over the past 2-3 months I have been doing work in our backyard. It involved putting a garden bed around the perimeter of the fence and planting some bushes that will grow and fill out the space. Basically so I look at bushes instead of a boring fence.

Plants have been in for a while, bark was laid sometime after that. Only started doing the timber edge in the last 2 months, so that’s the main progress here. However if and when I post original photos, you will see trees have really grown too.

Happy Australia Day – 2014

As tradition would have it, today is the perfect day for a BBQ. However on the flip side, I am so full. I think I over did it on the food.

Happy Australia Day to my fellow Australians.

Hyundai i30 Trophy CRDi

The day finally came. After waiting nearly a week, the new car was ready for delivery. Decided to mark the occasion with a blog post and a few pictures. Of course I should also say a few words below or post a few words in this case.

Today see’s us take possession of our new Hyundai i30 Trophy CRDi, and it’s the passing of the Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI which I traded in. The Golf served us well, and we thought it would be best to move to another diesel based car. Hyundai for us ticked the right boxes.

Here is a few pictures, just so we can remember just how clean and sparkling it was on day one.

So far I would have to say I am totally impressed with the USB port. We plugged in my wife’s iPhone and was surprised that the music was able to be selected via album from the head unit of the radio. Further more when I played an album the cover art displayed on the head unit of the radio along with the song name etc. Will be sure to post a pic of that soon. It was also charging the iPhone while connected.

As you can see I got a tow bar fitted, and was surprised to see the wiring harness sits in the boot. It’s one of those flat ribbon cables that has enough length so that it can hang out the boot when in use. Never had one like this before. The Golf wiring harness had an adapter that plugged in and from this we could plug in the trailer wiring loom.

The difference in power from the VW Golf 2.0 TDI is certainly noticable. But this was expected, since we are talking 2 very different engines. i.e. 2.0L vs 1.6L. Although the i30 CRDi still manages to pull like a freight train. Gearboxes certainly a bit different, but both 6 speed manuals.

Will be sure to post back anything else I find with the car, but very happy with the purchase so far.
